Support the Frankfort YMCA and the community by eating chili!  All proceeds will directly benefit local children and families with financial assistance to participate in YMCA programs and memberships.

Think you have the best chili?  There is still time to enter the contest.  Cook-Off winners will be judged on:

  • Top 3 places judged on taste by a panel of experts.
  • Top 3 places based on votes cast at your table. One vote = $1, with all proceeds benefiting the YMCA Annual Giving Campaign.

Drop off at Fit Time For Women in Frankfort

Cinderella's Closet provides prom dresses, shoes & accessories for underprivileged girls who otherwise would not be able to go to their proms because they can't afford the dress.  All the dresses are donated and most are gently used. If you would like to donate your daughter’s or even some of your own gently worn prom/brides maid dresses drop them by Fit Time For Women. The only stipulations are there should be no need for major repairs they should appear clean (no stains), and not appear outdated (nothing should scream a particular style in vogue at a particular time).  They will take care of snaps, hooks & eyes, buttons, and other minor repairs. they can also donate 'prom type' jewelry (sparkly earrings, necklaces, bracelets) & evening bags.  The deadline Feb. 9 in the morning.

Nominate Frankfort's Champions of Character


From March 14-20, 2012 Central Kentucky will be in the national spotlight as host of the 2012 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship! Tournament organizers are giving our community a chanced to get involved by nominating our fellow central Kentuckians who demonstrate the 5 core values of the NAIA Champions of Charter Program. If selected, your Champions of Character nominee will be honored before a designated NAIA tournament game. The 5 core values: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership. All nominations must be received by February 17, 2012. You can pick up a nom form at the Star Studios, 115 West Main Street in Downtown Frankfort.

Living Better through Meditation

Mindfulness in Everyday Life, Living Better through meditation is a 5 week course. It is taught by Dr. Joseph F. Fiala. Mindfulness meditation helps to reduce stress and improve one’s quality of living. Cost is $75 with a sliding scale for those needing financial assistance. Ky Dept of Agriculture's Annual Poster & Essay Contest


Deadline February 10

The 2012 theme is "It All Starts With Agriculture."  The contest is open to all Kentucky students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Students may submit a poster or an essay. Entries must be postmarked no later than Feb. 10 and mailed to Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Poster and Essay Contest, 100 Fair Oaks Lane, 5th Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601.  Winners in each grade will be notified on Feb. 20 and will be honored at the annual Kentucky Agriculture Day luncheon in March in Frankfort. "RADIO GALS" is a musical by Mike Craver and Mark Hardwick, set in the late l920's, and concerning an enterprising woman, Hazel Hunt, of Cedar Ridge, Arkansas who, upon her retirement as the town music teacher, receives a Western Electric 500 watt radio transmitter and begins broadcasting as radio station "WGAL". What comes out over the local airwaves is a small town diary, calendar, and stream of consciousness. However, due to Hazel's habit of "channel wandering", her broadcasts are not always so local. And listeners as far away as Montreal and Manhattan can testify. Enter O. B. Abbott, Federal Radio Inspector, intent on rescuing the airwaves from gypsies like Hazel Hunt. However, Mr. Abbott soon falls prey to the blandishments of the Hazelnuts, and the Shangri-La that is Cedar Ridge. Inspector Abbott, it turns out, also has a fine tenor voice, plays a mean accordion, and in the course of things falls for the flapper...

Through donations of new and gently used formal dresses and accessories, we are able to "Turn Dresses Into Dreams" for juniors and seniors referred to our organization by their school, community organization or social care agency.  Even more than a dress, Cinderella's Closet provides an unforgettable, amazing experience.  From the moment our princesses dance through our doors they are greeted with an environment of grace, love and respect.  It is our mission that they leave knowing they are cherished. Captial Expo Idol


Sign-ups will begin at 8:00 PM each night with competitions starting at 9:00 PM. Two winners from each night will move on to the FINALS, Thursday night June 7th for a chance to WIN the GRAND PRIZE and title of Capital Expo Idol 2012. RULES:
 1. Contestant will select their first song.
 2. Contestant must select a minimum 5 songs. 
 3. Judges will select the remaining songs elected by
 the contestant if the judges request a sing off.
 4. No duplicate songs will be allowed. First come, first serve.
 5. Contestant can choose to use a solo instrument
without accompaniment during the competition.
 Expo will not be responsible for any set up or
equipment to be used for the use of instruments.
 6. Contestant is required to perform a nationally recorded
song and cannot perform music they have written. 
 7. Contestant understands that first and second winners
at each location are expected to compete at the
2012 Capital Expo Idol Finals in June. Award money
will not be given until the night of finals in June.
Failure to show at the finals, prize money will be considered forfeited.  
 8. Contestants are allowed to bring their own karaoke
 music during preliminary competition; however, Expo
 cannot guarantee compatibility with karaoke systems at each location.  
 9. Contestant agrees to not use any inappropriate
material or profanity during a performance. 
10. Contestant is aware that the Karaoke monitor
 will not be allowed during final competition.
11. Performer agrees they will hold Expo, its officers, members,
agents, successors and assigns forever, harmless from any
liability of any kind relating to their participation and performance.

The Kentucky Arts Council presents Kentucky Crafted: The Market After 30 years, Kentucky Crafted. The Market is back in Lexington! This one-of-a-kind evening begins at the Frazier House, a Richardsonian Romanesque-style mansion built in 1887, and begins with hors d'oeuvres, wine and silent auction. Silent auction items include golf packages and local weekend getaway packages. Guests will be transported to their assigned dining location via limousine. More than a dozen private residences in the historic Old Louisville neighborhood are participating. Homeowners will give diners a rare glimpse of their elaborately decorated and historic homes. Guests will enjoy a unique three-course dining experience.
