Kanye West took it upon himself to give Seth Meyers a lesson in fatherhood on last night's Late Night. When Meyers jokingly asked if West's next album would be more kid-friendly now that he's a father, the rapper replied, "I think artistic, intellectual kid-friendly songs... it’s all in the way you raise and have an understanding and an appreciation for what you’re looking at and what you’re hearing, and why you’re hearing it." West also stated that he would like to be a sculptor but can't because he's a celebrity. Meyers shared a discarded SNL sketch of West interrupting a little girl's prize-winning ceremony at a pumpkin-growing contest, and West stuck around and performed a greatest hits medley that ended, of course, with him throwing the mic on the floor.

Katy Perry took a lot of heat for her Geisha-themed performance this year's American Music Awards, and now she's facing backlash for another perceived insensitivity to other cultures. A Change.org petition is blasting Perry's new Egyptian-themed "Dark Horse" music video, particularly a scene where she magically zaps to death a man wearing a pendant that forms the word "Allah." The petition, which has drawn 44,000 signatures, states, "blasphemy is clearly conveyed in the video, since Katy Perry (who appears to be representing an opposition of God) engulfs the believer and the word God in flames." The video's unlikely to be removed from YouTube, since it doesn't break the site's copyright infringement or pornography rules.

Coldplay shocked fans two (late) nights ago when they released a brand-new single called "Midnight" at midnight Mongolian time. The band first let fans know about the track and its release time by tweeting, "Something new at 0:00 in Ulaanbaatar [a region of Mongolia]," adding the hashtag "#midnight." A few hours later, they tweeted a YouTube link to the song's black-and-white video. The single will presumably appear on the band's upcoming sixth album, rumored to be coming out in May or June. Since the track arrived, many Coldplay fans have noted it sounds an awful lot like something Bon Iver would put out.
