InsideOUT - Confidence

When truly looking at how to be beautfiul from the inside out, perhaps the most important quality you can possess is CONFIDENCE. There are some things we can control and other things we can not - the days of being the prettiest in the room, the skinniest or the most fashionable are long gone. Not because you can't be those things but, society has progressed toward uniqueness. No more cookie cutter stereotypes. Radiating your uniqueness is much cooler these days.

One of my favorite pointers when it comes to developing confidence: "Care most about what you want to do, not what people think. If you keep your eye on the work, confidence comes from doing the best you can." The Guardian

Everything stems from confidence. People are drawn to you. Positivity comes naturally when you possess confidence. Hold your head up high when you walk into a room. Learn to walk down a flight of stairs without ever looking down. Maintain your poise. Confidence is arguably the number one quality women say leads you to feeling and looking beautiful, regardless of your age.

InsideOUT - Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Nothing says FALL like Pumpkin. Well, football says FALL... but, it also says Winter... and couch potato... Anyways, let's focus on Pumpkin. It's kinda played out, right? What if I shared with you a new way to enjoy pumpkin? No artifical flavors or colors. Just a healthful, delectable way to enjoy a true fall favorite.

Whatt if I made it even better and added PIE to the party? That's right. Pumpkin PIE. Better yet, "healthful" pumpkin pie... all wrapped up in a no-bake smoothie recipe.

Here it is. You can thank me later.

PUMPKIN PIE SMOOTHIE
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 large ripe banana
1 cup unsweetened soymilk (may opt for vanilla almond milk and omit the honey)
1 table spoon honey (use something local to combat allergies)
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
5 ice cubes

Optional: Add some ground flaxseeds and/or a pinch of nutmeg.

Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Pour into stemless wine glasses. Makes two so you can share this treat with your BFF. Enjoy over gossip.
XO,
Kelly Anne

InsideOUT - Laugh

Laughter IS the best medicine.

Growing up, the above line always sounded so cliche. In fact, I'd rather hear someone tell me "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" and just be on my way. All that changed a few years back when I had the pleasure of meeting this gal...
A new friend who loved stand-up comedy. I don't mean this chick enjoyed drinking a bourbon and giggling flirtaciously in the crowd... Nope. This girl had just won the title of "#1 Female Stand-Up Comic in all of Kentucky!"

Kelly Anne Beile pictured with Audra Meighan, KY's #1 Female Comedian
at Women Leading Kentucky Fall Roundtable

I started attending the local clubs and pubs in the beginning just to show my support, meeting up with her husband and other friends. She worked hard to develop a scene for locals to get out and enjoy comedy seven days a week. It was during this time that I discovered: Laughter truly can be the cure-all to any woes.

For hours after a show, my frame of mind continued to be in a happy and relaxed state. This mood certainly topped the feeling post-massage (and it created less of a dent on your pocketbook).

Point being, if you haven't taken in a comedy show lately, I encourage you to set a date soon. If you're thinking comedy shows really aren't your thing, I encourage you to give it another shot. Our tastes change depending on the timing of events in our lives.

There are a handful of events happening in the area including:

- The Calipari Foundation's Comedy Mania happening at Rupp Arena in November OR

- Check out one of the top comedy clubs in the country reserving a ticket at Comedy Off Broadway.

XO,
Kelly Anne

InsideOUT - Woman Crush Wednesday

We're changing things up a bit today! Since Wednesday is commonly referred to as #wcw or Woman Crush Wednesday, we're taking a look at a most admirable lady: Mary Wilson.

I had a chance to meet and chat briefly with the founding member of The Supremes at the Kentucky Derby earlier this year. A true Southern woman born in Greenville, Mississippi (with a childhood history in Detroit), her heart is as big as her smile.

I found this on her personal website and love the honest gratitude expressed -

"Your (talk) raised the bar of personal perseverance among our students... This guidance is now rooted in the fertile soil of their souls where confidence and belief give birth to dreams that may once have seemed unattainable. It is within this sphere where they learn to treat obstacles as opportunities for growth and adversity as a doorway to change. The kids recognized and found comfort in the teachable moments you provided. We applaud you for sharing the gift of love, freely, as it was given to you."

Mary Wilson has a great story to share. I encourage you to seek her out when you can - whether thats through a simple search online or a potential 'Meet & Great' when she comes to your area.

After The Supremes disbanded in 1977, Ms. Mary became a musicians' rights activist as well as a musical theater performer, best-selling author and motivational speaker. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

InsideOUT - Eye Brighteners

If you live in Kentucky, allergies are inevitable. Add in the role of mommy or career-woman (or both!) and tired eyes can be the sure-tail sign of having too much on your plate. No need to let others know your struggles -

One of my absolute favorite products is this Reviving Eye Brightener by Skin Authority. I use it in the morning for an instant pick-me-up - consider it the all natural "double foam soy latte" for those tired morning eyes!
This is an all-natural product which is a double plus. It even has some anti-aging qualities...
  • Calm irritation and puffiness
  • Works on the underlying cause of fine lines and darkening of skin with Vitamin K, Arnica, and Green Tea extracts
  • Strengthens capillaries and improves with Ginseng, Kinko Biloba, and Bioflavoids
  • Prevents collagen breakdown for firmer texture
  • Fortifies cell membranes to improve cell strength and moisture retention
  • AOX Technology™ combines vitamins and antioxidants to provide a multiplier effect over any individual ingredient
  • Key Ingredients: CoQ10 Enzyme, Ginseng, Gingko Biloba, Arnica, Green Tea, Chamomile, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Olive Oil

Looking for a home remedy for tired eyes? Try one of the below (courtesy of Home Remedy Central).

Cold Water Compress

If your eyes are itchy or bloodshot, try the home remedy most often employed for eye troubles.

  1. Immerse a washcloth in ice cold water and place over your face until the washcloth warms.
  2. Reapply the cold compress until the itchiness abates.

Milk Puffs

The healing properties of milk have long been understood as a natural cure to a variety of ailments. Dip cotton rounds in whole milk, squeeze excess liquid out and place on your eyes for 15 to 20 minutes, several times a day.

This home remedy will relieve any soreness you are experience with your tired eyes while helping to reduce puffiness.

Cucumber Slices

Long the choice of divas and spas, slices of cucumbers can be used as a natural cure for the puffiness that your tired eyes can experience.

After peeling a cucumber, relax with cucumber slices covering your closed eyes for up to half an hour, several times a day. The juice from the cucumber can also help reduce dark circles you may experience.

InsideOUT - First Impressions & Manicures

Remember Susan Boyle from "Britain's Got Talent"? That outwardly shabby appearance had everyone second-guessing her first impression before the Scottish singer finished belting out the first verse of "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables.

They say true beauty stems from the heart, but I'm sorry to say us humans are often rather quick to judge. In fact, Forbes says you've got just 7 seconds before the person across from you instantly assumes you fit into one category or another. While there are still (fingers-crossed) some kinder folks on this planet who don't do this - the majority of us aren't quite so forgiving. Therefore, if you want to come across as 'well-kempt,' - make sure your extremities are well looked after.

Maintaining your hands and feet is a sure sign to others the level of your general personal hygiene and the importance you place on it.

This isn't something that needs to take forever. Turn up your favortie radio station (*wink*wink*) or do double-duty when chatting with a friend on a hands free call. Here's a quick video to show you the essentials to an at-home manicure:

If you still aren't confident with your abilities (or have some insanely unruly cuticles), then head out to a professional. Keep the cost down by buying packages up front and develop a relationship with your nail tech - trust me, these gals can be as therapeautic as your hair dresser when it comes to girly gossip.

InsideOUT - A Healthy Take on Your Tailgate

TAILGATE WITH YOUR TUSH IN MIND
No reason to give new meaning to WIDE RECEIVER, ladies. When taking it all in (referring to the common occurence of over-consuming in a crowd-like setting), focus on your TIGHT END. Let's keep it real - friends, libations and good eats are what brings most of us to sport team colors on Saturday afternoons... rarely is it college football.

Kentucky has an early game tomorrow against Louisiana Monroe in Commonwealth Stadium. With the 12 o'clock kick-off, fans will be ready to eat before AND after the game. If it's a blow-out (fingers-crossed), expect the fair-weathers to meander out of the gates early and enjoy the rest of the game in the collapsible mini-village of tents, flat screens, space heaters and warm grills.

A couple of tips will keep you from over-indulging: 1) Eat a healthy breakfast before you arrive. With a full belly, the likelihood of munching on unhealthy options will diminish. 2) Stay hydrated. Nope, sorry - booze does not count. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Finally, be prepared to bring the most beloved dish to the stadium... below are a couple of options, depending on your level of comfort in the kitchen.

EXPERT IN THE KITCHEN
Try this all natural hearty dish...
SPICY CORN AND CHICKEN CHILI (click on the photo for full recipe).

NOT A COOK, BUT I'VE GOT SOME TIME
I made these for the Superbowl this year. Did I tell you I don't cook nor do I know what a double-broiler is?

CHOCOLATE DIPPED STRAWBERRIES

My secret weapon is this magical microwavable dipping chocolate -
SERIOUSLY? I HAVE A LIFE.
In a hurry? Grab these favorites:

Garden of Eatin' Blue Chips
I'm in #LOVE with the true blue color!
365 Organic Medium Salsa
Try this favorite from Whole Foods Market. I think you'll be surprised at how affordable their 365 brand can be... and its organic! Jazz it up with fresh cilantro and any spices you can find in your kitchen cabinet. With the added ingredients, you can tell your friends its homemade.

Siracha
Tired of salsa? Mix Siracha with Fat Free Ranch Dressing - my girlfriend, owner of Cutting Board Catering, does this all the time when I come over for dinner and it's so easy and so yummy! Siracha is available at most all neighborhood grocery stores these days.

InsideOUT - The LEG Edition

The LEG Edition
Ladies, listen up - if you're neglecting your legs, you're doing your man an injustice. Men LOVE legs... long and lean, tanned and toned. Want some quick tips that will have even your gal friend's staring at those stems? Keep reading...

BOOTY MAKEOVER
This 30 Day Challenge is well worth it! No need to be in the gym; you can do these from the comforts of your own home. Don't feel obligated to knock all the squats out at the same time. Sometimes, life gets in the way... instead of getting frustrated, do 15 sqauts after you put your makeup on in the morning and promise yourself 10 squats each time you take a restroom break at the office... with a little motivation, you'll be surprised how easy it is to work these puppies into your daily routine!
LEG MAKEUP
Suddenly, that one guy you've been wanting to ask you out for weeks finally does... except, he wants to grab drinks day after next! Not enought time to transition that tush with the 30 Day Squat Challenge? Try one of my tried and true leg tricks - its Sally Hansen's Airbrush Legs. Perfect legs in an instant!

Opt for the liquid body makeup (over the spray) in either Medium or Dark (depending on your current level of tan). If you're afraid it'll be too dark, you can always bring the color down by mixing equal parts of your favorite body lotion.

The best part: this product is found at any major drugstore and retails for right around $9.99!

Some more tips:
- Make sure to get prepared in an area that can be easily cleaned. I pull the rugs out of the bathroom in case any spills happen. The body makeup is washable but, inevitably, there always seems to be small splatter when in a hurry.
- This makeup will come off! Be prepared when you are out and about... don't choose the chair with the white seat cushion or jump in a car with cream leather unless you have something like a towel or coverup to sit on.
- Same goes for bedding... don't leave your man wondering why you left a brown spot the morning after. Its just not cute.

Pictured here: Kelly Anne Beile with one of Central Kentucky's Most Favorite Photographers, Neil Sulier, at a charity event.
Those aren't hose, ladies! That's the Medium Leg Makeup from Sally Hansen.

NOT A FAN OF KNEES
Unfortunately, my knees are not one of my most favorite parts. If you have chubby knees, try adding shimmer right above the knee itself - this will distract the eye. (I also sometimes apply a second layer of leg makeup to the inside of my knees as the darkness slims the area down.) This tip, in conjunction with the Sally Hansen product above will have you feeling Leg-tastic!

Try this product - found at most Sephora stores or online.

InsideOUT

MAKEUP
Its Football Season in the Bluegrass and while this cougar sometimes wishes she was still dating guys in dorms (mainly because of my commitment issues) - I'll happily have a love affair with a new beauty product any day of the week - especially if it reminds me of my college days.

I've found something bound to impresses the boys on the field and makes you feel pretty at the same time - it's called "Frat Boy, the Balm." Not the Bomb. Not Frat Boy Slim.... It's Frat Boy. The Balm.

It's an un-assuming blush that will make you feel like a giddy school girl all over again. The inside of the compact even totes a Bible-like passage..."So many men, so little time..."

SKINCARE
If you're fighting the urge to use the hashtag PSL this season, here's a great reason to take a deep breath and just let it go - I promise, your friends will thank you for it. It's called the Pumpkin Spice Facial - its all natural, its affordable, and gosh darn it - it'll make you feel beautiful.

Borrowed from our friends at Hello Natural
What You'll Need:
  • 1/2 green apple
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk
  • Dash of cinnamon
How to Prepare Your Mask:
Peel and chop the apple. Put it in the blender with the pumpkin until you have a smooth consistency. Add in the honey and milk. Slather on your face and neck (avoid the eyes) and enjoy a pumpkin spice latte while it sits for 15 minutes. Store the extra mask mixture in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks – or have a tasty snack!

2015 MLB All-Star Game & Moerlein Lager House

The 2015 MLB All-Star Game takes place on July 14th, 2015 at Great American Ballpark, home of the Cincinnati Reds.

Entrance Area to Great American Ballpark

While nestled amongst the downtown area alongside the riverfront, Great American Ballpark sits adjacent to Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Cincinnati Bengals. The amenities surrounding the area provide multiple mixed-use buildings with ample locations to eat, people watch and take in all that Cincinnati has to offer.

One of my favorite restuarants is the Moerlein Lager House. It has the best views of the waterfront!

It is also one (if not the only) multi-level restaurant by the ballpark; the upstairs is very family-friendly and the downstairs provides more of the sports bar/brewey atmosphere. You'll even find Pete Rose memorabilia and some history lessons in the lobby - get the full experience by signing up for the Heritage Brewery Tour!

Moerlein is also one of the only places adjacent to the stadium that accepts reservations... always a plus when hungry sports fans are looking to be fed post-game!

Need more convincing? Check out their MENU.
