5. Dine out frequently.

6. Let your money wallow.

7. Pay an upfront fee for a mutual fund.

8. Pay too much in taxes on investments.

5 Ways To Instantly Boost Your Self-Confidence from yourtango.com

1. Check yourself out. According to our Irresistible You survey, half of you measure your physical beauty by how you feel when you look in the mirror. When you feel like you look great, your confidence goes up instantly! So why not put on the most flattering outfit in your closet, apply your favorite makeup, and give your hair a sexy tousle? Take a look in the mirror and give yourself some well-deserved adoration! Then just spritz on your flirtiest perfume and voila — you're ready to face whatever the day throws at you in style.

2. Work out. Studies have shown time and time again that exercise gives you endorphins. So whether you're a devoted Zumba fan or just love to take long walks, those happy feelings combined with the satisfaction of knowing you're doing something great for your body will raise your self-regard instantly. Plus, you'll get that gorgeous post-workout glow —the perfect accessory to any outfit.

3. Receive a compliment — and believe it. Everybody loves to hear some nice words. Try to have a conversation with somebody who values you, whether it's via phone, email or face-to-face. If you're having a particularly down day, perhaps tell someone how you're feeling — a little reassurance can go a long way. Not only will you hear some kind words, but you'll also gain good feelings from speaking to somebody who cares about you, and that is a key ingredient for high self-esteem.

4. Stop comparing yourself to others. One of the most damaging things you can do for your self-esteem is to compare yourself — whether it's your talents, career, looks, relationship status or anything else — to somebody else. This not only hurts your self-esteem, it can also harm your relationships and create tension. Instead, focus on your strong points.

5. Cook a healthy meal. Good nourishment can go a long way to helping you appreciate yourself — especially since nearly 60 percent of you said that the activities most likely to make you feel attractive are eating right and exercising. Check out a brand-new recipe, grab the ingredients, and make yourself something delicious as well as good for you. Bump up this idea a notch by inviting some friends over to make it a social affair

OLYMPICS: Pageant Queen, Swimsuit Model, NOT a Gold Medalist

Franco-Olympics

Friday night’s Olympic Opening Ceremony in London got mixed reviews for being both extravagant, but too complicated.

However, there’s no doubt that all the male viewers had their eyes glued to a Javelin thrower from Paraguay. With just her smile alone, Leryn Franco lit up the Olympic stadium. The photogenic athlete stood out among the crowd. Franco knows she’s n unusual beauty. Last year she posed in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Also, Franco was runner-up, in her early 20s, at the “Miss Paraguay” pageant.

That’s no ordinary Olympian. Still, Franco will have to settle for those accomplishments. She won't be anywhere near the awards stand in her sport: Javelin. She throws it only a fraction of the distance of the favorites.

VIRAL VACATION: Three Airports in US Infected with Germs

Waikiki-Beach

Here are three airports you should probably avoid: JFK, LAX and Honolulu International. They are crawling with germs and disease.

Researchers from MIT imagined anightmare scenario of a deadly virustraveling internationally. These three airports would be the most likely to contain the virus. European travelers regularly come through JFK, while Honolulu and Los Angeles serve as hubs for vacationers from China, Japan, India, and Australia.

However, there’s probably millions who’d risk the virus in Honolulu in order to take a relaxing vacation on the beaches of Waikiki.

FRIDAY!

10 Things You Hate About Your Body That Men Love from yourtango.com

1. Feet. Many men secretly love women's feet. They don't even pay attention to the usual body parts that you may be squeamish about. So go get a pedicure with your favorite color and add some enticing jewelry like a gold ankle bracelet and a beaded toe ring.

2. Hands. How delicate and inviting are your hands? What do they reveal about you? If you tend to hide them in your pockets or keep them squeezed into tight fists, you may be indicating that you are insecure and witholding. Try opening your hands and becoming a symbol of receptivity, caring and readiness to connect.

3. Fingers. Do your fingers appear well groomed and classy. Are your nails neatly shaped with fresh polish in a pleasing or interesting color? Have you used your fingers to gently massage your man’s shoulders or to sensually tease his arms and back? You may be surprised at how appealing your hands can be as he imagines being tantalized by them.

4. Back. How strong and smooth is your back? While some men are attracted by legs and butts, your man may enjoy stroking your smooth and shapely back. Whether you have defined muscles or just a nice back, without excess fat or skin problems, you may be surprised at how a man loves to massage your back and imagine the thrills you have in store for him.

5. Butt. You're worried that you have a big butt. So what! Do you realize that there are many men who just love that. They are actually aroused by the way it looks and also how it feels. Roundness is good. Men’s bodies are more angular so their brains actually crave and appreciate the roundness of a woman’s body, and you don’t have to be skinny.

6. Lips. So, your lips are not big and luscious. They're narrow and small. No worries. You can still run shivers up his spine if you use them in the right places on his body. And don't forget the power of the words you utter in his ears. Use your most seductive tone and tell him how sexy and powerful he is.

7. Makeup-Free Face. Women tend to feel self-conscious when they walk out the door without their makeup on. But most guys actually prefer minimal or no make-up. For example, Kim Zolciak, star of Bravo TV's Real Housewives of Atlanta, made the news when people found out that she is actually much younger than she appears with layers of makeup on.

8. Extra padding. Women tend to get upset when they don't quite squeeze into their jeans, but in reality, men love a little extra padding. If padding isn't popular, then why is Kim Kardashian on so many magazine covers?

9. Fine lines. It may sound tempting to run out and get some Botox to fix those fine lines and wrinkles, but a natural face wins out over the too tight, unnatural face. Plus a few fine lines are proof of life experiences, confidence, and a greater wealth of knowledge.

10. Love Handles. There's a reason they're called love handles — so don't get so insecure about the five extra pounds on your waist and hips. Men don't really like emaciated and angular women with nothing to grab.

OLYMPICS: Opening Ceremony Features McCartney and Sheep

London

(LONDON, ENGLAND) Earlier this week, London went through a dress rehearsal of the Opening Olympics. Nearly 60,000 people were in attendance, but asked to keep quite and not spoil the spectacle for the rest of us. In general, they have remained mum, but overall the reviews have been very upbeat and positive.

Tonight, the real deal happens on NBC. Here’s what you can expect to see:

  • The Queen, Prince William, new wife Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry are expected
  • Fiery Olympic rings will rise over the stadium
  • The show's cast includes 12 horses, 10 chickens, 9 geese and 70 sheep
  • Two “mosh pits” will be filled with dancers
  • Sir Paul McCartney closes the ceremonies with a song

7 Worst Summer Foods For Kids from yahoo.com

Hot Dogs. Since they're filled with sodium, they zap water from kids' bodies-and up children's chances of dehydrating. Plus, those wieners are stocked with saturated fat, which is a factor in causing heart disease, even in tiny tickers. Another reason to ditch dogs: One study found that children who eat more than 12 hot dogs per month are significantly more likely to develop childhood leukemia than their weiner-eschewing counterparts.

Pepperoni Pizza. One slice packs nearly 300 calories, and your munchkin may want seconds. There are also gobs of saturated fat and dehydration-promoting sodium, about 700 mg per piece. Kids need only 1,000 to 1,300 mg per day.

Sports Drinks. You may think those electrolyte-replacing -ades are exactly what kiddos need for fun in the sun, but they actually contain high amounts of sugar, which research has linked to substantial weight gain. One study found that every additional serving of sugary sips a day increases a child's risk for obesity by as much as 60%.

Ice Pops. Like sports drinks, they come with empty calories that can cause weight gain. And as refreshing as they might seem, they're actually filled with sugar or high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavoring and dyes.

Ice Cream. Depending on the brand, a one-cup scoop of plain vanilla ice cream contains more than 400 calories and 40 grams of sugar. That's a heavy load for itsy-bitsy bodies to shoulder when they're not as active in the summer. It can also have as much as 16 grams of saturated fat, a big problem because high-fat foods can leave kids without the energy they need to play outside.

Potato Chips. Not only can all of that sodium cause dehydration, but it can also prompt kids to quench their chip-spurred thirst with sugary drinks, says Johnson. Plus, chips are high in fat.

Cookies. Yes, they're the go-to nibbles for rainy summer days, but besides being filled with fat and sugar, they're very easy to eat too many of while kids play computer games or watch TV.

FLIRTY: Women Always Win Negotations with Flirtation

pam-jim

(BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA) A university study into “feminine charm” found that a little flirtation goes a long way in winning a negotiation. Men cannot resist a woman’s flirtations.

The study looked four different ways at women playing the flirt card in negotiations. Each time she won. In particular if the “flirtatiousness is perceived as above and beyond friendliness”. So it pays dividends to be both playful and obvious about it.

7 Foods To Live Longer and a 1 Million Dollar Shoe Collection

7 Foods To Live Longer from foxnews.com

1. Broccoli, grapes and salad. We'll start with the scientific consensus: A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, high in nutrients and low in calories, are your best bet for a long life. Need specifics? Eat more broccoli, grapes, and salad: Researchers have found that compounds in these three foods pack extra life-extending benefits.

2. Berries. These bite-sized fruit favorites are check full of antioxidants, known to boost immunity and stave off life-threatening disease. They'll help you age gracefully as well. A 2012 study from Harvard University found that at least one serving of blueberries or two servings of strawberries each week may reduce the risk of cognitive decline in older adults.

3. Garlic. At a Pennsylvania banquet celebrating centenarians last spring, Nancy Fisher, 107, attributed her long life to her faith ... and her passion for garlic. Fisher may be on to something, however: Studies have found that phytochemicals in garlic can halt the formation of carcinogenic chemicals in the body, and that women who eat more garlic have lower risk of certain colon cancers.

4. Olive oil. As delicious as it is healthy, this monounsaturated "good fat" is well known for its heart-health and longevity benefits. Studies also show that olive oil may also be linked to brain health and cancer prevention. Aim for two tablespoons a day.

5. Bok choy. Studies suggests that cruciferous vegetables like this one contain nutrients, such as fiber, vitamin C, and folate, that can help you cheat death. And that's likely the case even if you've already had a close call: A study from Vanderbilt University found that breast cancer survivors in Shanghai who ate more cruciferae—specifically of the turnip, cabbage, and bok choy variety popular in China—had lower risks of death or cancer recurrence during the study period.

6. Avocado. How to prevent heart disease, the largest killer in the United States, according to the latest report from the National Center of Health Statistics? Eat more foods that help keep your heart healthy, like avocados and others already on this list, and improve your odds of a long life. Avocados can lower your LDL "bad" cholesterol while raising your HDL "good" levels, and they help your body absorb heart-healthy vitamins like beta-carotene and lycopene.

7. Tomatoes. Lycopene is also an important nutrient in the fight against cancer—the second leading cause of death in the United States. And there's no better source than rosy red tomatoes. Eating them cooked, in pasta sauce, tomato soup, or chutney, actually increases the amount of carcinogen-fighting carotenoids your body is able to absorb.

5 Rules Of Snacking from healthyliving.com

1. Count the Calories. Snacks can make or break your diet. For most people, if you eat your meals three to five hours apart then you really don't need snacks to tide you over. But if you go for long stretches between meals -- or tend to feel ravenous when you get to dinner -- then eating a well-balanced snack can really help. The right amount of calories in a snack depends on your daily caloric needs, how active you are, how often you snack, and how many calories you take in at each meal. But a good number to shoot for is probably between 150 and 300.

2. Choose Combos Wisely. The perfect snack has some carbs for quick energy, and some protein to keep you satisfied until your next meal. Bonus points if you choose a snack with some fiber as well, since that will help you feel full and keep you from turning your snack into a fourth meal. She suggests pairing foods like an apple or pear with a tablespoon of nut butter; some grapes with a bit of cheese; or a small yogurt with some whole-grain cereal sprinkled in.

3. Watch Portion Sizes. Hundred-calorie snack packs are convenient and help prevent overeating, but they can still contain unhealthy food loaded with trans fats, preservatives, and high-fructose corn syrup -- not to mention, they use a lot of unnecessary packaging. (Plus, research has shown that people tend to eat more than one pack anyway, thus defeating their purpose!) Instead, make your own snacks from natural, whole foods whenever possible. Leftovers can be a great source of afternoon nibbles, but watch the portion sizes: Shoot for 1 ounce cheese; 2 to 3 ounces meat or fish; 3 or 4 pieces of dried fruit; or 1/4 cup nuts.

4. Eat Frequently. Several small meals or snacks throughout the day can keep your blood sugar stable and keep your metabolism running at its most efficient, which, in turn, can help keep your body from holding onto excess weight. It can also keep you clearheaded and focused; you'll avoid that ravenous feeling between meals, or the "food coma" feeling that comes from stuffing yourself at lunch or dinner.

5. Don't Forget About Drinks. Mindlessly consuming liquid calories is one of the easiest ways to blow a healthy eating plan: An afternoon gourmet coffee drink or 20-ounce soda can be just as detrimental to your diet as a cupcake or a brownie -- and chances are, it's got little redeeming nutritional value. Beverages can also play a positive role in your snacking strategy, however. Often, what you think is a hunger pang might just be a sign of thirst. Try sipping water with lemon or a cup of tea to see if your cravings subside. Green tea, in particular, may help rev your metabolism and help you burn calories more efficiently.

Divorcee Gets to Keep Her Shoe Collection Worth $1 Million Bucks

Shoe Collection

(PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA) Beth Shak still owns at least 1200 pairs of designer heels, including 700 Christian Louboutins (which can cost $4000). Total value of her shoes? Easily $1 million dollars.

Shak said she had a serious need for "retail therapy". Her loveless marriage drove her to shop, and she's fixated on Louboutins. Last month, Beth's wealthy ex-husband (Dan Shak) wanted a piece of those shoes. He claimed in court that he was oblivious to her fancy shoe colelction. When they first divorced, their total assets reached tens of millions of dollars. He thought that they split it fairly, until he learned that her shoes were worth another million.

However, Beth Shak was able to provide to the court judge "detailed billing statements regarding the shoes" which were signed by her ex-husband. Realizing that his case was sunk, he asked his attorney to immediately drop the lawsuit. Beth said (quote) "It was pretty obvious he knew he was going to lose. Dan looked like a buffoon."

Drop a Dress Size & Batman looking at Huge Numbers

10 Ways To Drop A Dress Size from ivillage.com

Power Up Your Probiotics. Adding probiotics rich foods like low-sugar Greek yogurt to your diet to aid in weight loss. In fact, one study done by the Stanford University School of Medicine found that patients who were given a probiotic supplement after bariatric surgery lost significantly more weight than those that didn’t take the supplement.

Weigh Less With Whey. One 2008 study, published in the journal Nutrition and Metabolism, found that when subjects followed a reduced calorie diet and ingested a whey protein supplement twice a day, they lost significantly more body fat than those that only reduced their caloric intake.

Get Quality Sleep. One study from Columbia University found that women who slept only four hours a night ate, on average, 329 calories more (and 31 grams of extra fat) the next day, versus when they were well rested.

Eat a Protein-Rich Breakfast. Research has shown that eating protein-rich eggs instead of carb-heavy foods like bagels can help you lose up to 65 percent more weight.

Swap Juices for Fruit. Fruit juices are a sneaky source of calories, especially since most are labeled as healthy sources of nutrition. The truth is most bottled juices are loaded with sugar, and many are no better for you than soda.

Add Protein to Every Meal. Protein helps curb your appetite, has a direct fat burning and hormone-balancing effect, helps relieve anxiety, and builds and maintains muscle.

Nix the Nightcap. While you may enjoy a good glass of wine (or two), alcoholic drinks are one of the easiest and fastest ways to rack up your calorie count for the day. If you use a nightcap to unwind, try switching to green tea instead.

Brown Bag Your Lunch. Lunchtime can be stressful – trying to fit in food during a busy workday can often mean greasy pizza from the cafeteria or grabbing a loaded sandwich from the nearby deli to eat at your desk. Not knowing what you’ll have for lunch everyday before you leave the house is an easy recipe for a lunchtime calorie disaster. Your daily game plan: Avoid the food court, and pack a brown bag lunch instead.

Drink Two to Three Liters of Water a Day. Water helps cleanse your liver and kidneys, allowing your body to excrete hormones efficiently.

Practice Portion Control. Portion control is probably one of the most important tools for losing and maintaining weight loss. Did you know, for example, that only 20 years ago a regular sized cup of coffee (with milk and sugar) would have only set you back 45 calories, and today’s 16 ounce mugs now serve up over 350 extra calories from milk and sugar?

Anti Social Media

A new study by Western University reveals that 88% of people check out their ex's Facebook page after they break up. Other findings:

- 80% of people look up their ex's new partner on Facebook

- 48% of people remain friends with their ex's on Facebook

- 70% of people log in as a mutual friend to creep their ex's Facebook's page

- 50% of people delete pictures of their ex from their Facebook profile

- 31% of people post pictures to try to make their ex jealous

- 52% of people are jealous of a picture their ex has posted on Facebook

"What have you done to make an ex jealous?"

DARK KNIGHT: Already Earns $25Million on its Way to $200Million

Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood reports that Warner Brothers Studio is predicting a blockbuster weekend with The Dark Knight Rises. An executive at the studio told Finke (quote) "All the major circuits have asked for more frequent pickups from their Brink's Truck drivers to deposit the record amount of cash they are anticipating." In other words, out registers can't handle so much cash, and we're afraid of heists.

Sales have already reached $25 million and the first showing is not until midnight tonight. At this pace, "The Avengers" record of $207 million for the first weekend is in jeopardy. It's just not the studio that's seeing record profits, so are the scalpers who're asking up to $100 per seat for the midnight IMAX showings.

7 Tips to Prevent Overeating and Superhero Co-Workers

Superhero Co-Workers

A new superhero survey by Snagajob reveals that 51% of people think The Hulk would be the most annoying co-worker because of his anger management issues and emotional volatility. Other findings:

- 21% of people don't want to work with Iron Man because he's always late.

- 19% of people think Captain America is a brown noser

- 8% of people don't want to work with Batman because of his irritatingly deep voice

"What superhero would you not want to work with?"

7 Simple Tricks To Prevent Overeating from yahoo.com

1. Take A Seat. Whenever you eat, sit at a table and use cutlery and a plate, rather than eat on the run, standing up, or at your desk. That way, the next time you eat you'll chow about 30 percent less, according to a recent study.

2. Sip Some Soup. Before digging into your entree, savor a bowl of soup. You'll likely consume 20 percent fewer calories over the course of the meal (a good tip to remember if you tend to overeat at restaurants). The soup fills and stretches your stomach,"sending signals to your brain that tell you to stop or slow down eating.

3. Think Simple. Variety may be the spice of life, but it can ruin the best intentions when it comes to eating. We consume more calories when we see an array of food, say researchers. To understand how this works, scientists gave subjects m&ms and found that the more colors they mixed in a bowl, the more people ate. Keep this tip in mind when planning a meal and don't go overboard with the offerings -- if you're serving rice, for instance, pass on the bread and potatoes. As for buffets, why torture yourself? Steer clear.

4. Downsize. Bigger is not always better. Oversize dishes and spoons cause you to overeat -- even if you think you're a good judge of portions. Case in point: Nutrition experts who were given big bowls at an ice cream party devoured 31 percent more than those with smaller bowls. Ditto on the serving spoons: Those helping themselves with bigger utensils downed 14.5 percent more ice cream than folks with smaller serving spoons

5. Hide It It's true: When we see food, we eat it. A study of secretaries found that those with chocolate candies in clear containers on their desks ate almost twice as much as they did than when the candies were "hidden" in opaque containers. They also ate less if the candy was placed at least six feet away from their desks. The moral? Don't mess with temptation. Keep calorie-dense treats covered, tucked away in a cabinet, or out of reach.

6. Sniff a Whiff. Apparently, peppermint's powers go beyond freshening your breath. A small study at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia found that people who inhaled peppermint essential oil every two hours ate 23 percent fewer calories during a five-day period.

7. Be Sneaky. Sometimes, perception means more than reality. You can trick yourself into thinking you have more food by serving choices that spread out -- like roasted, cubed potatoes or pasta shells with sauce -- instead of dense foods, like mashed potatoes or lasagna.

OLYMPICS: More American Women Than Men in London

For the Summer Olympic Games, 269 female athletes will represent the United States. As for the men, 261 athletes.

For the very first time, the United States will bring more female than male athletes. Just last week, the final roster was printed and delivered to the IOC (International Olympic Committee), confirming what had been speculated about for weeks. Just like in real life, the ladies out number the men.

The typical American earns about 14 vacation days per year, but only uses a fraction of them. Another one-quarter of the working population does not earnany vacation time.

FIRST IS BEST: People Instinctively Favor Firsts

When given an option, most people pick the first thing on any list. Whether that be as minor as a choice of salad dressing or a major life decision such as which college to attend. A study shows that most go with the first option.

Dana Carney says (quote) “The order of individuals performing on talent shows like ‘American Idol,’ the order of potential companies recommended by a stockbroker, the order of college acceptance letters received by an applicant — all of these firsts have privileged status.” This is especially true when you’re forced to “think fast” and not linger with deliberations.

10 Calming Foods from ivillage.com

Swiss Chard. This versatile leafy green is loaded with magnesium, which is considered by many nutrition experts as the ultimate “anti-stress” mineral. Magnesium helps muscles and nerves relax.

Cauliflower. Cauliflower is high in fiber, which promotes healthy digestion and elimination. If stress causes constipation or other digestive problems, bulk up on this veggie.

Spinach. With a laundry list of micronutrients such as vitamins A, C, K and folate and minerals like manganese and iron, spinach should be the top staple in everyone’s diet. But in times of stress, the adrenal glands (where stress hormones are stored) tend to be particularly depleted of their normally high levels of vitamin C.

Pumpkin Seeds. Zinc is essential for immune health and stress management, particularly in our fast-paced urban lifestyles. Symptoms of a zinc deficiency include loss of appetite, irritability and depression. So a handful of pumpkin seeds now and then isn't a bad idea.

Broccoli. With more vitamin C than an orange, broccoli is also a rich source of vitamin A and potent antioxidants that help your body manage everyday stress.

Tuna. A great protein source, tuna also contains omega-3 fatty acids (the “good fats” that Americans are not consuming enough of). Think of the omega-3 fats as a natural anti-inflammatory. When stress is present (especially chronic stress), inflammation can take place throughout the body.

Asparagus. This spring vegetable is not only high in antioxidants (ideal for combating oxidative stress) but also a good source of tryptophan, an important amino acid that the body uses to make serotonin, which helps us sleep and supports a healthy mood. “Serotonin deficiency is the most common cause of panic attacks

Nutritional Yeast. You may think of it as just “hippie food,” yet this nutritional powerhouse has stress-relieving B vitamins and 15 minerals, including magnesium, selenium and zinc. It boosts metabolism and is beneficial for stabilizing blood sugar and weight loss.

Bell Peppers. Thanks to their high vitamin C content (291 percent of the RDA), bell peppers are a good anti-stress food. They’re also low in calories (red bell peppers are only 25 calories per cup) and high in dietary fiber.

Parsley. This member of the carrot family delivers an astounding amount of stress-busting nutrients like flavonoids, a type of antioxidant found in plants that protect against free-radical damage (which are the result of stress) and vitamins A and C. Your body will thank you for all of the protective powers it provides.

10 Foods Women Should Eat More Often (Fruits, Veggies, Fats, Omegas, Nuts) from yahoo.com

1. Pharmaceutical grade fish oil supplement or wild salmon. The omega-3s in fish and quality fish oil help your body burn fat more efficiently, make your mind more focused and spiritually inclined, and improve your mood. Fish oil raises serotonin levels which is especially important for women because women have half the level of serotonin in their brains as compared to men. This explains why women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with depression.

2. Old fashioned or steel cut oatmeal. In addition to being inexpensive, oats have a low glycemic index, are high in fiber, and contain GLA. GLA in the right amounts helps regulate female hormone levels. Oats contain a lot of fiber, both insoluble and soluble, the latter has a beneficial effects on cholesterol. Without going into detailed mechanisms, oats lower cholesterol, and can lower blood pressure, which lowers the chances of cardiovascular disease.

3. Berries. Berries contain huge amounts of anti oxidants and other phytochemicals (anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins and more) which help prevent cancer, aging, maintain healthy vision, lower cholesterol and total blood lipids and keep the circulatory system healthy. Berries may prevent and treat urinary tract infections, help age related cognitive decline and lower amounts of brain damage in strokes. They also contain large amounts of vitamins, minerals and fiber with very few calories and no fat.

4. Organic sweet potatoes. The deep orange color of an organic sweet potato shouts vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The average commercial sweet potato grown in depleted soil are not so vibrant. I believe the best multivitamin is to have a sweet potato three to four times per week. Sweet potatoes are also low glycemic.

5. Nuts. There are so many types of nuts, each with their own unique health benefits so this one is a bit general. However all nuts are a great source of protein, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. Eating a wide variety of nuts is best and stick to the plain ones, roasting and salting make them much less healthy! Women in a Harvard School of Public Health study who reported eating 5 or more 1 ounce servings of nuts/peanuts per week reduced their risk of Type 2 diabetes by almost 30 percent compared to those who rarely or never ate nuts.

6. Avocados. These luscious green fruits are high in monounsaturated fat, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which are good for your metabolism and for promoting vibrant skin. Those on weight loss diets will often avoid avocados because of the fat content; but we must remember that is some fat is essential; some fats are actively good for us and actually help, rather than hinder weight loss. Monounsaturated fats can speed up metabolic rate, help us feel fuller for longer and prevent binges on high sugar or saturated fat foods. Its low sugar content and absence of starch make avocado an ideal food for diabetics.

7. Farm raised eggs. Few foods can match the nutritional power of an egg yolk. The modern philosophy of balanced eating has overturned the fear of cholesterol because balanced insulin and blood sugar decreases cholesterol production in the body. People feed yolks to make their dogs coat healthy: eggs can do the same for human skin and hair. Plus, egg whites are an excellent source of protein.

8. Stem, stalk and leafy vegetables. Greens, such as broccoli, kale, spinach and other leafy greens offer roughage, water, and many essential phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals.

9. Raw cacao. Women usually crave chocolate during the menstrual cycle to escape the hormonal storm. Raw cacao contains anandamide, a substance that mimics marijuana, thus giving women a sensation of bliss.

10. Organic yogurt. Yogurt has probiotics for good digestive health and calcium for strong bones. It is also quite versatile and can be eaten for any meal of the day.

Favorite Social Websites Reveal Your Inner Political Personality

Believe it or not, your favorite social website may reveal your political personality.

A called "Engage DC" has collected data and run surveys to try and understand the preferences of people on each website. They say that the sites involving commerce are populated by conservatives. For example, Amazon, PayPal, eBay, and Zillow. When it comes to the liberal-minded, they're spending online time at sites such as Quora, BuzzFeed, and Wikipedia. Engage DC describes these sites as having an "emphasize on information and knowledge".

Taken together, Engage DC imagines the presidential campaigns waging a battle for voters. On one side are the (liberals) "Etsy-shopping, Spotify-listening Tumblr readers" and on ther other (conservative) "eBay-shopping, Pandora-listening FarmVille players".

HOLLYWOOD REHAB: Formula Predicts Who Needs Sobriety

Which celebrity is due next for a stint in rehab? Mathematics guru Garth Sundem has devised a formula, first published in The Huffington Post. His belief is that Hollywood’s drug and alcohol problems usually stem from growing up in a broken home, starting too young in show business, too many tattoos, and hanging out with the infamous Lindsay Lohan. Sundem factors in these traits to predict which celebrities are on the fast-track to rehab.

To no one’s surprise, he is confident that Lindsay Lohan is due for rehab (yet again). However, Sundem’s formula has her making 3 separate trips, but even before her 25th birthday (last week) Lindsay has visited rehab 5 separate times, only to be released and prove she hasn't learned her lessons.

Other results from Garth Sundem:

  • Selena Gomez is scheduled for rehab based solely on her parents divorce at an early age
  • Entertainers who are in the “danger zone” because they’re due for a(nother) trip to rehab include EminemCory Monteith, and Nicole Richie
  • Who is predicted never to need rehab? How about Taylor SwiftMiley Cyrus,Rihanna, and Kristen Stewart. Many people question Rihanna who always seems to be teetering toward rehab. Just this week she has Tweeted: "Sometimes, ya just need a stiff cocktail--

Summer Foods For Weight Loss & The 10 Sexiest Songs Ever

Summer Foods For Weight Loss from ivillage.com

Strawberries. Who can resist a bowl of juicy red berries? Pop ’em freely, because they’re the perfect summer snack: filling, light on calories and laden with nutrients from omega 3 fats to cancer-fighting polyphenols. Just half a cup of strawberries provides over 70 percent of your daily Vitamin C, plus fiber and an array of antioxidants.

Cherries. Sweet, juicy cherries contain just 87 calories per cup -- and if you enjoy them three times weekly in place of heavier desserts, you could shed up to five pounds this summer alone, say researchers at the University of California.

Plums. Whether eaten whole, dried or pureed into sauces, plums are low in calories and a good source of both dietary fibers and Vitamin C.

Squash. From pattypan to zucchini, summer squash delivers major vitamins and nutrients (including magnesium, potassium and copper), to the tune of a mere 80 calories per half cup. With its bright colors and earthy flavor, squash makes the perfect side dish to any meal.

Bell Peppers. Sweet red peppers are such a good source of beta carotene, and top the charts of vegetables for that important antioxidant. Green bell peppers also contain generous amounts of Vitamin C.

Mangoes. Dense with antioxidants -- plus protein and omega 3 fats -- mangoes are a delicious, low-calorie way to bulk up meals with exotic flavor, ensuring "healthy" fare doesn’t fall into a rut.

Parsley. This often-overlooked herb is packed with slimming potential. According to USDA researchers, each cup contains 984 micrograms of vitamin K -- a nutrient that prevents fluid retention and flushes out bloat, helping women shed three pounds of excess water weight if they serve it up daily.

Beets. One of the real gems found in beets is the B vitamin folate, a key nutrient for women. Beets help protect against heart disease, birth defects and certain cancers, especially colon cancer.

14 Worst Kids' Foods from ivillage.com

Deli Meats. Not only are hot dogs loaded with fat, sodium and nitrates (which have been linked to cancer), they can also be choking hazards for young children if you don't cut them into small pieces.

Fruit Snacks. Don't let the word 'fruit' fool you -- fruit gummies, leather and the like are so packed with sugar they're actually more like candy, even the ones that are fortified with vitamin C.

French Fries. It's no surprise that kids eat more French fries than any other vegetable. However, the trouble is that fries contain lots of fat and calories, and it's way too easy to gobble down extra servings of them. That may not seem like a problem today, but what your child eats now is likely what they are going to be eating for the rest of their lives.

Sugar Cereals. Don't be fooled by the sugar-cereal boxes boasting that they contain loads of vitamins and minerals. Eating those cereals is like "eating cookies and chasing them down with a vitamin pill."

Sweetened Drinks. You probably know that soda is a big no-no for kids -- drinking it can increase their odds of being overweight and developing type-2 diabetes, in addition to causing cavities. But fruit drinks can be just as bad as soda. f they're not made from 100-percent juice, they're the nutritional equivalent of soda without the bubbles.

Granola Bars. Granola bars might seem like the ultimate health food, but the truth is many varieties contain ingredients that make them more like a sugary dessert than a nutritional treat. They key is to check labels: Look for bars that contain at least two grams or fiber and less than ten grams of sugar.

Restaurant Kiddie Meals. You'd be shocked at the nutritional info behind common kids meals at certain restaurants: Some contain as many calories as a young child should consume in one day. Plus, the options liked grilled cheese and fried chicken fingers are usually loaded with a scary amount of saturated fat and sodium.

Veggie Chips. Of course, vegetables top the list of healthy foods, but don't assume veggie chips (or sticks or puffs) contain the same health benefits. These snacks may be made from vegetables but they're so highly processed and full of fat, that they lose all the nutrition of real vegetables.

Honey. If you're the parent of an infant, avoid giving your child honey until she is at least a year old. Honey can contain spores that, when consumed, can cause botulism, with symptoms including dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, paralysis, breathing problems or even death.

Sports Drinks. Whether it's a vitamin-enhanced water or an electrolyte drink, sports drinks aren't a great option for kids. Not only do they often contain 100 or more calories per bottle, experts say that drinking such sweet beverages can mean that kids become used to the taste and stop drinking water because it tastes too bland in comparison. Experts advise avoiding these drinks unless your child is exercising in the heat and sweating heavily.

Kids' Yogurt. Yogurt is a terrific food loaded with protein and calcium. But many of the kid's varieties (you know, the ones with cute animals and popular cartoon characters on the carton), can be loaded with artificial colors and as much as 25 grams of sugar per serving. The healthiest option: Buy plain lowfat (or nonfat) regular or Greek yogurt and sweeten it with fresh or frozen fruit or 1-1/2 teaspoons of honey (if your child is over age 1). If your kid will only eat the flavored yogurt, then think of it more as a dessert than a healthy snack.

Packaged Noodles. Mac 'n Cheese or ramen noodles may not seem that unhealthy but many are actually relatively nutrient-free and packed with fat and high amounts of sodium. Children ages 2 to 3 should have no more than 1,000 milligrams of sodium per day, while kids up to age 8 shouldn't exceed 1,200 mgs per day. Yet just a one-cup serving of your average box of macaroni and cheese (and most kids eat more than that) has over 500 grams of sodium -- more than half of a child's recommended limit.

Smoothies. A 12-ounce fast food strawberry shake can pack 560 calories, which is more than most kids need in an entire meal. So pay attention to ingredients and portion size: Choose or make smoothies with fresh or frozen fruit with ice or plain yogurt -- and serve it in a small (8-ounce) cup.

Cheese. Cheese is an excellent source of calcium and protein and it's oh so delicious, but watch your child's portion sizes. Just one slice of cheese can contain over 100 calories and 10 grams of fat, so having more than that for a snack on a regular basis -- never mind smothering your child's veggies or pasta in it -- can add up quickly.

Happy 4th of July

Hit the Road Jack

Over 40,000,000 Americans are expected to hit the roads this Fourth of July making it the perfect time for a personality profile by Dr. Valentine Winsey. Dr. Winsey has released a profile, which reveals, how, what you keep in your car reveals your personality.

Cluttered Car: If your car is cluttered, you lack focus, are independent, are a non-conformist and you like being a rebel.

Mobile Museum: If you have pictures, tassels or other items hanging from your rear-view mirror, you are sentimental, not afraid to show your feelings, are warm, open-hearted and faithful to your friends.

Tool Kits: If you have tool kits in your car, you are a take-charge-type person, a leader, not a follower and are cool and calm even in emergencies.

Recreational Items: If you have blankets, balls, bats, BBQ items and sports equipment in your car, you view life as a game, you are spontaneous, happy and love to have fun and party.

Traveling Library: If you have books, magazines and newspapers in your car, you love to be informed, crave education, are curious and are a wise consumer.

Neat Car: You care what others think about you, you are organized and you are conservative.

Americans are $25 Less Patriotic This Fourth of July

What a bummer that Independence Day falls on a Wednesday. In fact, according to Visa, about 20% of Americans have no plans to celebrate the holiday. What’s the use when it happens smack in the middle of the work week? There’s no chance at a sweet three-day weekend, without burning off additional (hard-earned) vacation days.

Also, Visa found in a phone survey that we intend to spend on the 4th of July $25 dollars less than they did last year (quote) “With most Americans continuing to watch every dollar closely, many have realized that sparklers and flag emblazoned t-shirts are not essential items.”
