Could an app from Umbrella Revolution be used in presidential election?

File photo of pro-democracy lawmakers carrying yellow umbrellas after leaving Legislative Council meeting to boycott government in Hong KongFireChat wants to move beyond its status as an off-the-Web resource to a messaging service that can be used on the go, and online, to create massive chat rooms in which campaigns can communicate directly with their supporters over their smartphones.

N.J. Sen. Bob Menendez to face corruption charges: reports

FILE - In this Jan. 27, 2015 file photo, Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J. speaks on Capitol Hill in Washington. It flew through the Republican-run House in 2012, and a year later 79 of the Democratic-led Senate’s 100 members embraced it. With Republicans now controlling both chambers of Congress, the chances for repealing the 2.3 percent tax on medical devices are better than ever. Yet abolishing the tax won’t be easy, even though Republicans rank it a top priority and are backed by Democrats from states that rely on the industry for jobs. Obama criticizes Ferguson as city seeks settlement over racial bias

St. Louis County Prosecutor's Office handout evidence photo from August 9 Ferguson Police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri shows officer Darren Wilson's police badgePresident Barack Obama on Friday condemned the Missouri city of Ferguson for "oppressive and abusive" actions against African-Americans that were laid bare in a U.S. Justice Department report accusing police and court officials of a range of illegal actions. The president's comments came as U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said on Friday dismantling the police department was a possibility. "That means everything from working with them to coming up with an entirely new structure." Ferguson Mayor James Knowles said three city workers who demonstrated "egregious racial bias" are no longer employed by the city, and said Ferguson officials are pursuing other reforms to try to reach a settlement with the U.S. Justice Department.

CIA to make sweeping changes, focus more on cyber ops: agency chief

The lobby of the CIA Headquarters Building in McLean, VirginiaBy Mark Hosenball WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Central Intelligence Agency will make one of the biggest overhauls in its nearly 70-year history, aimed in part at sharpening its focus on cyber operations and incorporating digital innovations, CIA director John Brennan said. Brennan said he is creating new units within the CIA, called "mission centers," intended to concentrate the agency's focus on specific challenges or geographic areas, such as weapons proliferation or Africa. The CIA director said he also is establishing a new "Directorate of Digital Innovation" to lead efforts to track and take advantage of advances in cyber technology to gather intelligence. Historically, electronic eavesdroppers at the National Security Agency have been at the cutting edge of digital innovation within the U.S. government.
